Cumberland Family Academy to Support Families with Virtual Sessions

image of blue graduate reaching for a star out of a red and yellow book with caption of Cumberland County Schools Cumberland Family AcademyCumberland Family Academy provides FREE workshops and educational events for CCS families. From research, we understand that
students achieve more when families are involved in their education. When families have high expectations for children and encourage them to work hard, they support and promote a child’s academic, social and emotional well-being. The purpose of the Family Academy program is to provide families with the necessary academic tools to support the success of their child’s education and to bring schools, parents/guardians, families, and community organizations together as equal partners.

Cumberland Family Academy hosts virtual workshops on a variety of topics, including support with Canvas and PowerSchool, internet safety, academic success, community resources and much more. Access the entire course catalog and Academy Schedule here

The sessions will take place virtually at 6 p.m. on Thursdays. Families can join each session, where they will be able to participate and ask questions. Additionally, CCS will post an encore of each session on the district’s Facebook page and YouTube channel on the following Tuesday.

“Right now—more than ever—parents have a tremendous impact on a child’s education, especially while children are learning at home,” said Lindsay Whitley, associate superintendent for Communications and Community Engagement. “We are here to support families as we all navigate through remote learning and eventually transition back to in-person learning. Together, we can forge strong home-school partnerships and set high expectations for children, encouraging them to work hard while also providing academic, social and emotional support.”

Cumberland Family Academy is part of priority four of the district’s strategic plan, which calls for the development of a district-wide family engagement outreach program. This initiative will provide parents with additional tools to support their child’s education and will bring schools, parents, caregivers and community organizations together as equal partners.
